Winning consecutive premierships seemed unlikely when Adelaide lost its first final against Melbourne but wins against Sydney and the Western Bulldogs lifted the Crows into the premiership decider against minor premiers North Melbourne.
At half-time the Roos appeared in control, leading by 24 points. But Adelaide hit the front late in the third term and held North Melbourne goalless in the final quarter, kicking away to win by 35 points.
Andrew McLeod won the Norm Smith Medal as best afield and Darren Jarman booted five goals.
