'Don't get reported'
Neil Craig has a simple message for his players as they prepare to face Melbourne
Defender Richard Tambling will miss the Crows' clash with Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday after accepting a one-match ban for striking Saints forward Adam Schneider.
Big men Kurt Tippett (striking) and Sam Jacobs (engaging in rough conduct) were also cited by the match review panel, but escaped with reprimands.
For St Kilda, defender Zac Dawson received a one-week suspension for punching Chris Knights in the stomach, an act Knights has described as being outside the spirit of the game.
The acts were uncharacteristic of the Crows under Craig.
He addressed the issue of discipline with his team during the week, showing the players (and the media) a video package of courageous spoils, chases, tackles and second-efforts to win the contested ball.
Craig said these were the "tough" acts he expected of his players.
"I don't want anyone to think tough footy is about sitting in the grandstand for one, two or three weeks," he said.
"It [getting reported] is just a waste. Sometimes when a player gets reported you sit back and say [that's a grey area] but some of our reports were not grey areas.
"There were a whole range of things that happened in the game [against St Kilda] and some people get exposed.
"The discipline's got to be really high. I've reinforced that this week and I'd be really surprised if those reports continued."
Adelaide is likely to make three changes for the trip to Melbourne.
Midfielder Rory Sloane, who hasn't played since breaking his jaw and thumb against Hawthorn in round one, is guaranteed a spot.
Defenders Jared Petrenko and Chris Schmidt are also likely to be recalled for their first games of the season, with the club deciding against bringing in a key-position player to replace injured defender Phil Davis.
Forward Ricky Henderson (corked thigh) trained on Friday and is expected to play.
Former best and fairest winner Bernie Vince wasn't considered for a recall, with Craig declaring he needed to see more from the midfielder defensively.
Tambling (suspended), Davis (injured) and Brodie Martin (omitted) are the confirmed changes to the team that beat St Kilda.
Davis will have shoulder surgery on Friday, and Craig said it was possible the former NAB AFL Rising Star nominee would miss the rest of the season.
"We'll know more over the weekend or by Monday or Tuesday whether it's a season-ending injury or not," he said.
"Hopefully it's not, but it's a significant shoulder injury and Phil won't be available for a long period of time."
There was some good news on the injury front on Friday, with mature-age rookie Ian Callinan joining in parts of training for the first time since tearing his bicep off the bone in the pre-season.
Craig said the skilful onballer was four to five weeks away from making a return with SANFL club Central District.
"There will be an opportunity there for Ian with Phil Davis being a long-term injury," he said.
"He can sense he has an opportunity to play AFL footy late in his career and he's not going to be left wondering."
Melbourne has been heavily criticised following its lacklustre performance against West Coast last week.
Craig said his players were aware of the pressure on the Demons to respond this week.
"We've been through it ourselves and I'm sure we'll go through it again at some stage," he said.
"There's a lot being said about Melbourne at the moment, so it's nearly a game we would choose to play in for where we're at and what we need to do."
