KURT Tippett responded to calls to leave him out of Adelaide's Preliminary Final team with a best-on-ground performance in the heartbreaking loss to Hawthorn on Saturday.

Tippett resurrected his finals series after a quiet fortnight, starring with four goals and playing a pivotal role in the five-point defeat.

The 25-year-old's marking was elite, he was agile when the ball hit the ground, and he helped set up a goals for his teammates.

However, with conjecture surrounding Tippett's future, coach Brenton Sanderson admits he doesn't know whether the out-of-contract forward will be at the club next season.

"It's probably too early to call on that one," Sanderson said.

"But … how well did he play today? It's funny because you look at the three finals and we didn't have one player who was outstanding in all three.

"We had different guys who were good in two and not so good in the third, or vice versa. Kurt's game today was exceptional, he got us away with that great start and gee, he tried his heart out for the footy club.

"That (the future) will take care of itself now, that will be the speculation for him and the club over the next few weeks."

Tippett finished with 16 disposals and took 11 marks, seven of which were contested.

Teammate Brodie Smith, himself a strong contributor in the loss with 16 disposals and a great long goal in the third quarter, said it gave the Crows a lift to see Tippett back at his best.

"He's massive for us. When him and Tex are working well and kicking goals we play so much better and that happened today," Smith told AFL.com.au.

"He had a couple of quiet games but it shows his character to come out today in the preliminary final and play the way he did.

"It gives us so much confidence going forward knowing the big boys are up there marking the footy. That's key for us."
