Players Association MVP nominees
Scott Thompson’s stellar year continues as he is one of the three Crows nominated for the AFL Players Association MVP Award.
Three players from each of the 17 clubs are eligible to win the award, with defenders Graham Johncock and Ben Rutten also nominated by their peers.
Brodie Smith was the Adelaide player to receive a nomination for the ‘Best First Year Player’ award. Smith played 14 games since making his debut in round one, averaging 13 disposals.
Along with the Best Captain award, the AFLPA also recognises the AFL’s Most Courageous Player.
Jared Petrenko’s rise in 2011 has seen him rewarded with a nomination from his peers for his fearless attack on the contest.
As in previous years, the process begins with each team voting for those three players which provide the best overall value to their own team.
Then, in the second round of voting, all AFL players choose from the list of 48 nominees to determine who will be the MVP (they cannot vote for players from their own team in the second round).
The winners will be announced on Monday 12 September at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium and will be broadcast exclusively on Fox Sports 1 at 9.30pm.
