Adelaide players will wear black armbands in Friday night's Semi-Final as a mark of respect for late Port Adelaide midfielder, John McCarthy.

The Crows and Dockers will also observe a minute's silence prior to the game. As a result, the match will now start at 8:15pm (previously 8:10pm).

A minute's silence will also be observed ahead of the other Semi-Final between Collingwood and West Coast at the MCG on Saturday night. There will not be any change to the 7.15pm (SA time) start for that match.

The clubs will continue to work in conjunction with the AFL to determine other appropriate ways to pay respects to McCarthy.

McCarthy, who died in Las Vegas earlier this week, played 18 games with Collingwood between 2008-2011 and then played 21 matches for Port Adelaide this season, after joining the club through the pre-season Draft.

“As well as players, coaches and officials, I’m sure all football supporters attending the games this weekend will remember John, his partner and his family and his contribution to our game,” AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou said.

Crows CEO Steven Trigg expressed his sincere condolensces to McCarthy's family, friends and the wider football community.

“Everyone at the Adelaide Football Club is shocked and saddened by the news today of the tragic death of John McCarthy," he said.

“On behalf of our Club, we have today extended our deepest sympathies to the Port Adelaide Football Club; and wish publicly to do the same to his previous Clubs, as well as John’s family and friends, at this most difficult time.”
