Crows fan Matt Cowdrey kicked off his Paralympics swimming campaign by winning a silver medal in London overnight.

Cowdrey broke the minute for his first time in the 100 backstroke (S9) and tonight hopes to take the form into his preferred 100 backstroke heats. He clocked 59.91, just behind Hungarian Tamas Sors (59.94).

"I'm stoked with that race really. This is one of my stronger ones, it's one that I've used as a warm-up swim coming into these games," Cowdrey said.

"I'm really happy with how that was put together. That's the first time I've been under a minute without the suits so I'm really, really happy with that. To start the meet like that, that's a great thing for me leading into the next nine or so days."
