Adelaide’s resident sprint-king Patrick Dangerfield will be out to claim the triple-crown when he takes his mark in the Grand Final sprint at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
A talented junior sprinter, Dangerfield has won the prestigious Grand Final Day event in the past two years.
In 2012, the explosive onballer beat out Sydney’s Harry Cunningham and Hawk Angus Litherland to finish in a time of 10.84 seconds (approximately). The year prior, Dangerfield outgunned Swan Lewis Jetta to claim his first sprint title.
The enigmatic Crow has also captured attention for his pre-race antics, mimicking Jamaican sprint star Yohan Blake and his unusual pre-race poses.
The confirmed starters for this year’s race, which will be held at 12:20pm (SA time), include Carlton speedster Chris Yarran.
The sprint was first held on Grand Final Day in 1977. Originally over a mile, the distance was changed to 100m in 1979. The race wasn’t held between 1987 and 2001, but was reintroduced in 2002.
