Crows midfielders Scott Thompson and Bernie Vince have been fined $1,200 each for engaging in a melee before the opening bounce of Adelaide’s clash with Fremantle at Patersons Stadium.
Dockers Danyle Pearce and Michael Walters, who made a beeline for captain Nathan van Berlo before the game, can accept $1,800 sanctions as instigators of the melee. The pair was also hit with an additional $1,200 fine for engaging in the melee.
Ryan Crowley, Matt de Boer and Zac Clarke were also charged by the Match Review Panel, with a total of $14,850 in fines dished out as a result of the fiery stoush. The clubs have until Tuesday morning to decide whether to contest the charges.
West Australian van Berlo, who had a tagging role on Freo wingman Stephen Hill, appeared to be the target of Fremantle’s pre-match aggression, but he said he wasn’t fazed by the attention.
“There was a bit of commotion at the start of the game. Both sides were ready for a fierce contest,” van Berlo said on Monday.
“It was good that we managed to settle quickly and get off to a really good start. We moved on pretty well.”
