The spectacular 2014 version of Adelaide Oval is taking shape as the new southern and eastern stands rise around a patch of dirt that will host an Ashes Test match in less than seven months.

Although the playing surface has been laser-levelled, it remains a busy work site and will not be grassed until early spring, when turf grown at Langhorne Creek will be harvested and transported to Adelaide in 72 semi-trailer loads.

The 14,000-seat River Torrens end stand, where the Adelaide Football Club changerooms will be located, is scheduled to be completed in time for the Test cricket match between Australia and England from December 5.

The upper level of this stand is starting to fill out while the view from Memorial Drive now provides a clearer vista of the scale of the $570 million redevelopment.

Works are also progressing on some renovations to the western stand, finished in 2010. A new media and broadcasting area will be built at the rear of the stand and coaches boxes will also be installed.

The 19,000-seat eastern stand will be opened for the arrival of AFL games at the end of March next year. It is expected that the first football game at the new ground will be played on either Friday, March 28, or March 29.
