Will Hamill will become the sixth Crows debutant in Season 2020 this weekend

Adelaide is set to blood another teenager this weekend with defender Will Hamill named to make his AFL debut against Gold Coast on Sunday.

Hamill, 19, was selected by the Crows with pick No.30 in the 2018 National Draft and played 20 SANFL games in his first season with the Club last year.

“Will has shown consistent improvement in his defensive action and he is an exciting talent who has elite speed,” Crows Head of Football Adam Kelly said.

“We see him as a key part of our future and he has earned the opportunity off the back of impressive training and match simulation performances.”

Hamill becomes the third Crow to taste AFL action for the first time following Fischer McAsey and Ned McHenry and will be the sixth Club debutant unveiled in 2020.

He replaces Wayne Milera Jnr who was ruled out for two months on Friday morning due to foot surgery.

Hamill’s inclusion is the only change from the side that lost to Port Adelaide in Round Two’s Showdown.

Kelly said Adelaide’s match committee opted against significant change to give those who played against Port Adelaide an opportunity to remedy a disappointing performance.

“Coming off a performance that's not to the level we need it to be, it has been a confronting assessment of the game and a look at the detail as to why we were not at the required level,” he said.

“The difficulty in selection is making an assessment on what really is a one-off performance - with the form of Round One some 12 weeks prior having little relevance."

Sunday’s game commences at 1.05pm AEST and will be shown live nationwide on Fox Footy.

The game will also be shown on-delay on Channel 7 in Adelaide from 3pm ACST.
