Acting co-captain Patrick Dangerfield says the Crows “owed” their members and supporters a strong showing against Collingwood.

Crows fans walked away from Adelaide Oval proud and excited by their team’s ruthless performance against the Pies on Thursday night. It was a stark contrast to the mood after Adelaide’s last home game in Round Seven where Melbourne upstaged the fancied Crows to record an upset win.

The Club’s 19th Man was in full voice on Thursday night and Dangerfield said the vocal home crowd played a role in Adelaide’s 21-point win.

“It (the atmosphere) was incredible. All credit to our fans to stick by us because we put in a really poor performance against Melbourne and we really feel we owed it to them. Honestly, they make a massive difference to the momentum of games,” Dangerfield said.

“It’s a super important result for our Club. We’ve really stewed on the performance we put in against Melbourne 11-12 days ago. For us to respond tonight in the way we did was really important.

“It also gives us real confidence that when we do implement our game plan for the majority of the game, we can beat anyone. It’s a very satisfying victory.”

The Crows laid the foundation for the stirring win with their fierce defensive pressure.

Adelaide laid 93 tackles – just six shy of the Club record (96) and was also able to force Collingwood into error with perceived pressure created by hard work. Dangerfield was one of the key contributors, laying an equal game-high five tackles.

“We wanted relentless pressure on the ball. Whether that was tackling or loose-ball gets. We spoke about pressuring them for the majority of the game. I think we did that tonight,” he said.

Only a few days after being in a moon boot to protect an ankle injury, Dangerfield worked tirelessly to help Adelaide over the line against the Pies.

Despite being heavily tagged by Brent Macaffer for the first three quarters, the two-time All Australian notched up a team-high 32 possessions (20 contested), a career-high 12 clearances and nine inside 50ms.

Dangerfield said it was pleasing to end the Club’s ‘Magpies hoodoo’.

“The last time we beat Collingwood was in Round One, 2009, in my third game, so it’s nice to get one back. I’m pretty sure Sando is pretty happy to finally get one up on ‘Bucks’ too,” he said.
