ADELAIDE forward Kurt Tippett will be assessed this week after suffering concussion during Sunday's 32-point loss to North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Crows coach Brenton Sanderson said the 25-year-old received a knock to the head late in the second quarter and then failed a concussion screening.

He was subbed out of the game at half-time, replaced by Jared Petrenko.

"It's always a tricky one with the concussion and the screening involved, but you have to back your docs in 100 per cent," Sanderson said.

Tippett will be monitored ahead of next Saturday's clash against Richmond.

"We won't jump to any early decisions," Sanderson said.

Tippett had taken three marks and booted one goal when he left the game, leaving Taylor Walker and Shaun McKernan as the Crows' key forward targets for the second half.

Young defender Sam Shaw is also in doubt for the Tigers clash after hyper-extending his right knee during the loss.

With Tippett already subbed out of the match, Shaw was forced to play on, earning praise from Sanderson.

"I really admire him," the Adelaide coach said.

"He gutsed it out.

"He's a young player, was obviously sore, we'd activated our sub, and he just had to grind it out, which he did.

"So I'm really proud of Sam the way he fought on today."

Sanderson dismissed concerns over the health of the Crows team after reports of sickness entering the match.

"We were fine," he said.

"It was only really 'Thommo' (Scott Thompson) and 'Danger' (Patrick Dangerfield) that had some flu symptoms during the week ... that was no excuse today."
