Adelaide’s 83-point demolition of Port Adelaide in the 2005 Showdown semi-final brought a sense of relief to the players.
The Crows had surged to their first minor premiership on the back of an eight-point win over West Coast in Perth, but stuttered in the first week of the finals - losing to St Kilda by eight points.
Looking back, ruckman Matthew Clarke said the win over the Power wouldn’t have happened without several standout performances.
“We had such a hard-working group, names that people forget,” Clarke told The Optus Crows Show.
“Scotty Welsh kicking four… Ian Perrie, a great servant of our Club, kicks three in a big game.
“Then the all stars like Andrew McLeod, Mark Ricciuto, Tyson Edwards, Simon Goodwin.
“Those guys had enjoyed a great season and to stand up in a final was huge for us.”
As fans and players did back in the 2000s, Clarke revelled in the victory at the Crows Shed.
“The shed was such a great part of our history,” he said.
“It had a great feel about it… fans could get close to the players which is what they love.
“From a players and coaches perspective, you move on pretty quickly (after a win).
“But fans get to revel and enjoy it… and we get to be part of that for an hour or two.”
