Crows forward Tyson Stengle will be unavailable for AFL selection for four matches as part of his Club-imposed sanction for a drink driving offence.

Stengle has also been fined $2,500 with the money to be donated to charity and he will undertake a road safety education program.

He was stopped by police for driving and an unregistered vehicle in Adelaide’s south-western suburbs in the early hours of April 9, and subsequently recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.125.

Crows Head of Football Adam Kelly said the sanction reflected the serious nature of the indiscretion and reiterated Stengle had clearly breached the Club’s standards, as well as those of the broader community.

“Tyson continues to show remorse for his actions and these sanctions are an expression of our disappointment,” Kelly said.

“It is crucial that he receives appropriate education on the significant risks and danger of driving while under the influence of alcohol, and road safety more broadly. 

“We are thankful that no one was hurt and the Club will continue to provide Tyson with the necessary support to ensure he can push through this difficult period.” 

The Club-imposed sanction was determined by senior management who took into consideration the 21-year-old’s delayed reporting of the indiscretion. 

Stengle is regretful of his actions and expressed his extreme disappointment. 

“I know that I have let a lot of people down and I want to apologise for what were some poor decisions,” he said. 

“I am determined to win back the trust of my teammates and coaches, and that starts with focussing on my training and working hard.”
