Adelaide midfielder Rory Atkins just wanted to send a cheeky video to his dad on what would have been his 100th game.
But after positive feedback from his father, Kenny, the 25-year-old made the call to distribute his mock running-out video further.
From there, the video was shared across dozens of media outlets including Channel 7, Fox Footy, AFL Media and AFC.com.au.
“My girlfriend Georgia was kind enough to film it,” Atkins told Adelaide radio.
“I wanted to send a video to my dad who was missing me and missing footy… so I sent that back home to the family.
“He said ‘mate, that’s pretty funny’, so I thought I may as well put it up somewhere and it went alright.”
Although his family was on board, Atkins had a difficult time convincing his girlfriend of the video.
“She didn’t think it would be too funny,” Atkins said.
“It was take two, but it only took about 10 or 15 minutes, which I was quite pleased with.
“I had to get her across the line (to film it).”
Pending selection, Atkins would have played his 100th game against the Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, April 4.

Regarding a result, Atkins said it would have been a close contest with the Lions.
“It would have been a tight game, would have been tough,” he said.
“I would have had a few mates coming over, Mum and Dad.
“But Beau (Atkins’ dog) played a good role on the weekend, he was instrumental.”
