Caitlin Gould’s AFLW debut had everything – big grabs, a match defining goal and a come from behind victory.

Despite her pre-game nerves, when the 20-year-old ran out in front of the 6500 fans at Hisense Stadium (Richmond Oval), those nerves turned into excitement.

“I was a bit nervous and stressed beforehand, but all the girls got around me,” Gould said.

“They said just play your game, play your role and just have fun and that’s what I did out there.

“That was the most (amount of people) I’ve played for, so that was exciting.”

COACHES VOTES: Three Crows polled

The first half didn’t go to plan for the Crows, and while they improved in the third quarter, Adelaide was still trialing St Kilda with five minutes to go.

Having already taken a number of strong, contested marks throughout the match, the first-gamer stood up when it mattered most.

With less than five minutes to play, the 181cm ruck took an exciting pack mark right in the goal square and slotted her first career goal to level the score.

Two late goals from Madison Newman and Eloise Jones made sure Gould got a win in her first match.

“It probably took me a couple of seconds to realise I actually grabbed the mark,” Gould said.

“I was pretty rapt and had Ebony [Marinoff] saying ‘take your time’ and I got the result so it was awesome.”

TRIO IN TEAM: Crows in Team of the Week

Gould said it was coach Matthew Clarke’s speech at three-quarter time which spurred the team into action.

“Doc talked about our tackle efficiency, pressing the game more and that is what were working towards,” she said.

“We did that and got the job done.”

Adelaide will take on Geelong in Round Three at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
