Crows draftee Nicole Campbell has labelled her side’s recent trip to Perth as one of the best weekends of her life.

The AFLW team travelled to the west coast for a trial match against Fremantle on Saturday, January 25 and took the opportunity to organise a team bonding weekend around the game.

Aside from taking a 17-point victory over the Dockers, the Crows also went out for meals in Mandurah together, played board games and had a leadership seminar during their three-day stay.

On Sunday, they travelled to Rottnest Island for a day of bike riding, swimming and meeting quokkas.

It was the first time Campbell had travelled for sport and one she’ll never forget.

“I’ve always looked up to the Crows and now to actually be here and to experience it firsthand has been amazing,” Campbell said.

“Travelling interstate with a whole bunch of your mates has been one of the best weekends I have ever had.

“Perth is such a beautiful place and to have a game of footy in the middle there, it can’t get any better.”

The defender believed the trip would hold the group in good stead in the lead up to their Round One match in Queensland’s Hickey Park against Brisbane on Saturday, February 8.

“The focus of this weekend was about being united, so it has definitely achieved that,” Campbell said.

“I feel like from this weekend I have got closer to everybody and had more opportunities to spend time with each other.

“Having that bonding experience and getting to know each other better has been really valuable.”

Campbell impressed in Adelaide’s two pre-season trial matches as she has settled into defence.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed learning from her teammates as she adjusts to the highest level of football.

“It was great to get a taste of how fast paced the game is and how high quality the skills are, so it was really good to see how I measure up,” she said.

“I loved getting firsthand experience of how the big league does it.”

With Adelaide’s season getting underway in Queensland, they will have their first home game in Round Two at Richmond Oval on Sunday, February 16.
