The Adelaide Football Club has thrown its support behind the CFS, and people affected by the South Australian bushfires.

Sam Jacobs, Taylor Walker and Matthew Jaensch visited CFS firefighters at the One Tree Hill Fire Station on Tuesday to show their appreciation for the efforts of the selfless volunteers, who have battled the serious Adelaide Hills blaze around the clock for several days.

Crows players have also donated signed guernseys and football boots, which will be auctioned online via afc.com.au, with the money raised to be shared equally between the Bushfire Emergency Relief Fund and CFS Foundation.

Jacobs said the players felt compelled to contribute to the cause.

“Like most people in SA, we’ve seen the devastating effect of these fires. A few of the boys got together and said to the Club, ‘We want to help. What can we do?’” he said.

“We visited the CFS volunteers just to have a chat and say ‘Thanks’ and, hopefully, put a smile on a few faces after a difficult few days for them. ‘Tex’, ‘Jaenschy’ and I are all country boys and understand the importance of community, which is also a big focus for our Footy Club.

“We hope our supporters get behind the online auction and help raise some money for the CFS, and importantly the people and families who have lost their homes, businesses and livestock in the fires.”

The online auction will run until 11:30pm on Friday, January 16. More items will be added in the coming days. You can view the auction items or place a bid here.

The Crows will also explore additional ways of supporting the fire-affected communities at an appropriate time.

All monies donated to the Bushfire Emergency Relief Fund will be distributed to people affected by the bushfires, under the direction of the State Emergency Relief Fund Committee. The CFS Foundation provides vital financial support for volunteer firefighters of the CFS, and their families, should they come to harm in the line of duty and also part-fund training and raise awareness.
