Liverpool Football Club legends Ian Rush and Craig Johnston spent Monday morning at Adelaide’s training facility to help teach the skills of the world game to blind and visually impaired South Australian children.
Crows Rory Sloane and Cam Ellis-Yolmen were also on hand to assist the Reds legends, with the clinic co-hosted by the Liverpool Football Club Foundation, the Adelaide Crows Children’s Foundation and the Royal Society for the Blind.
More than 50 blind and visually impaired children were put through their paces using a modified ball with an audible rattle sound and were guided by the clapping hands of the Liverpool development coaches.
Rush, Johnston, Sloane and Ellis-Yolmen were joined by half a dozen Liverpool development coaches who all helped run the clinic.
Ian Rush is Liverpool’s all-time leading goal scorer. He amassed 346 goals from 660 matches for Liverpool between 1980-87 and 1988-1996.
Craig Johnston was one of the first Australians to make a name for himself in the English Premier League. Johnston played 190 games for Liverpool FC from 1981-1988 and kicked 30 goals.
The pair are in Adelaide as part of the Liverpool Football Club’s pre-season tour of Australia. The Reds played Adelaide United in a friendly at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday night.
