Crows SANFL coach Heath Younie hopes his fledgling side can build on last week’s performance and upset Port Adelaide in Sunday’s SANFL Showdown IV.
Adelaide started slowly against the in-form Eagles at Woodville Oval on Saturday, falling 45 points adrift by the main break.
But some structural changes to the team helped break the shackles in the second half. The SANFL Crows produced some of their best football to close to within 10 points of the home side late in the final term.
Younie said he his young side would learn from last week’s performance heading into Sunday’s clash with the Magpies.
“Our form’s ok,” he said.
“Last week we weren’t great in the first half but I thought our second half was as good as we’ve played this year, other than the Sturt game.”
Adelaide has recorded just the solitary victory against the Double Blues in what has been a challenging year so far for the Club’s SANFL team. Inconsistency has been the theme of the season, but Younie’s charges have also shown plenty of promise in bursts throughout the year.
“Our good stuff is really good,” Younie said.
“It hasn’t turned into wins, but the style we’re playing is how we want to play, it’s just being able to implement that for four quarters.
“We’re in a good place to take on Port. But it’s no different than any other game from our point of view.”
Adelaide is yet to taste victory from three encounters against the Magpies since the Club entered the local competition last year.
The Crows started brilliantly against Port Adelaide in their previous contest in Balaklava last month and booted the first four goals of the match. But after leading for much of the afternoon, Adelaide conceded seven final-quarter goals to fall by 35 points to last year’s Grand Finalists.
“I thought the game was real high quality,” Younie said of the Round Seven clash.
“We just ran out of a little bit of puff. Full credit to Port, when they had the opportunity to put the game away I thought they did it better than us.
“But we took a few things out of that.”
Adelaide confronts the third-placed Magpies at Alberton Oval from 2.10pm. Crows ticketed members receive free entry to the clash, which will also be televised live on Channel 7.
