A group of 30 up-and-coming footballers from diverse backgrounds had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a Crows footballer on Thursday.

The group, which are part of the Crows’ Next Generation Academy Talent Squad, took part in skills sessions, opposition analysis meetings, and personal development activities as part of the whole day experience.

With the Crows AFL squad on a day off, the Academy group had full access to the Club’s West Lakes facilities as well as key staff for training, education, recovery, gym and educational purposes.

Next Generation Academy Coordinator Jarrod Meers said the day was about providing a fun and educational experience that replicated what a normal training day would be like for players at the Adelaide Football Club.

“To provide this type of access to our staff and facilities for an entire day is a wonderful opportunity for our Next Generation Academy boys,” Meers said.

“It has given them a chance to see what is expected at the elite level and hopefully they take what they have seen and learnt back to their club footy and apply it.

“Through this Academy we hope to help give many young footballers a springboard to embark on a career at the highest level – hopefully one day in a Crows guernsey.

“It’s also a fantastic way to encourage young people from all walks of life to get involved with our great game and improve their skills.”

The Academy’s Talent Squad consists of young athletes with Indigenous or Multicultural backgrounds from across South Australia who have been identified in partnership with aligned SANFL Clubs.

Plans are also underway for the establishment of a Next Generation Academy for females which will hopefully be launched later in the year.
