Cam Ellis-Yolmen’s outstanding SANFL season has been rewarded with a place in the League’s 2016 Team of the Year.

Ellis-Yolmen, who was Adelaide’s leading vote-getter at the SANFL’s Magarey Medal count, secured a place on the interchange in this year’s team.

It’s deserved recognition for the hard-nosed midfielder. He finished the home and away season as the No.1 player in the SANFL for contested possessions (235), was third in clearances (110) and sixth for total disposals (459).

Ellis-Yolmen was the only Crow to feature in the side. Teammates Harrison Wigg, Jonathon Beech and Reilly O’Brien were named in the initial squad but were overlooked in the final 21-man team.

Minor premiers Woodville-West Torrens dominated selection with six players in the side, including four in the backline alone.

Sturt was the next-best represented team with five players featured. First-year Double Blues coach Marty Mattner was named coach of the year.

Finalists Central District and South Adelaide both had three players included, while Norwood, Glenelg and Adelaide all had one player each.

The team does not feature any player from bottom-two clubs West Adelaide and North Adelaide.

Magarey Medallist Zane Kirkwood was named captain with former Crow Luke Thompson vice-captain.

The selection committee comprises of the SANFL’s Adam Kelly, Tom Hurley and Zac Milbank, Channel 7’s Mark Soderstrom and Advertiser Chief SANFL Writer Warren Partland.
