Nigel Smart became the first Crows player picked in an All Australian team, on this day 25 years ago.
The former South Adelaide defender, who made his AFL debut in Adelaide’s first game against Hawthorn at the start of the 1991 season, was the only Crow in the team which featured stars including Tony Lockett, Paul Roos, 1991 Brownlow Medallist Jim Stynes and Peter Matera.
Smart, 22, was named in a back pocket alongside full back Anthony Daniher (Essendon) and Guy McKenna (West Coast).
The team was announced at the Brownlow Medal count.
Ruckman Mark Mickan polled the most Brownlow Medal votes (14) in the Club’s first year. Andrew Jarman was next best, with 11, and Smart and Tony McGuinness both received eight votes.
