Livewire goalkicker Eddie Betts has earned two nominations for the AFL’s Goal of the Year for Round 10.
Betts bagged five goals against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night and wowed the Adelaide Oval crowd with two stunning second-half majors.
His first contender came late in the third term from the same spot as last year’s Goal of the Year winner. Betts lunged at the footy and was stationary on the ground for split second as he fought to keep the ball alive, before exploding past two Giants opponents along the boundary and snapping an incredible goal from about 40m out.
Betts’ fifth goal was equally astounding in the dying seconds of the match.
The two-time Crows leading goalkicker received a looped handball from fellow forward Josh Jenkins, but was facing the wrong direction with a Giants opponent already hot on his trail. Protecting the ball with one arm, the dangerous Betts somehow managed to swivel his body around and kick a goal with the outside of his boot while being pushed over the goal line.

Betts is the third Crow to be nominated this season for the Goal of the Year crown. Tom Lynch’s snap in Round Four and Taylor Walker’s long goal in Round Two were also nominated, but both Crows were unable to progress beyond the weekly vote.
Sydney’s Gary Rohan is the remaining nominee in the Round 10 Goal of the Year poll.
Betts is the only player so far this season to earn two Goal of the Year nominations in a single round.
Fans can win a weekly cash prize of $200 just by voting for their favourite goal and go into the running for a $5,000 major prize at the end of the season, thanks to Coates Hire.
Voting opens at 12pm (EST) each round the day after the last game, and closes the night before commencement of the next round at 11.59pm (EST).
