Crows recruit Troy Menzel has found it hard to break into Adelaide’s senior side since making the move from Carlton.
A well performing team, plus a couple of unfortunate injuries, have meant the 21-year-old has played all of his football in the SANFL so far this year.
On Sunday’s episode of The Crows Show, the former Carlton man talks about his move back home and what he needs to do to add to his 40 AFL games.
“It (the trade) happened quite quickly really,” Menzel says.
“Once the trade went through it was a bit of relief and definitely a lot of excitement to come back home and play for the Crows.”
Menzel, who played predominantly as a forward at Carlton, has been working on his fitness base in an effort to play more midfield minutes.
“It’s the first pre-season I’ve fully completed in four years so that gave me a good base to work off,” Menzel says.
“I’ve pushed up the ground a bit more, I’ve played a lot more midfield and wing as well, that’s been something I’ve really enjoyed.
“To be able to add that string to my bow and play those variety of positions is important.”
Menzel admits that it’s a pretty hard AFL side to break into at the moment.
“To crack into that forward line is pretty tough so I’m working on my defensive pressure,” Menzel says.
“I’m just trying to play some consistent footy at the moment, just get on the park each week and go from there.”
