Most AFL footballers try and have an escape away from footy where they can clear their minds and refresh their bodies.
For Crows midfielder Jarryd Lyons he spends his days off on the golf course.
Lyons has been a member of a golf club since he was 12-years-old but his dad says he was chipping golf balls in the backyard since he was about two.
The 23-year-old said golf is a great way for him to relax.
“Golf is a good escape from footy,” Lyons said.
“You can come out here by yourself and just play holes and get lost in the course really and just enjoy it.
“You don’t have to think about footy.”
Lyons can lay claim to the being the best golfer on the Crows list, however, he still has a way to go to catch Senior Coach Don Pyke who plays off scratch.
“My handicap is six and hopefully I get that down in the next few weeks,” he said.
“At the moment I’m probably going alright but Seedsman is fast approaching.
“I played with Pykey at the golf day and once before that but we haven’t actually played a full 18 together, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he goes.”
On the footy field, Lyons is trying to cement his spot in the Club’s best 22 after playing 13 games in 2015.
He’s played the last three AFL games and kicked four goals averaging 18 disposals.
“I was disappointed to miss out on Round One but that’s not the end of the world,” he said.
“Now I’ve played a couple of games in a row and I’ve just got to cement my spot in the side and keep playing well.”
“For myself I’m just focusing on my speed and endurance out there now with the interchange cap it makes a little bit harder.”
