South Australia’s women team impressed with a 27-point win over a Northern Territory side at Adelaide Oval on Saturday evening.
SA won 6-5 (41) to NT 2.2 (14) after restricting the visitors to just one behind after quarter time, when the NT led by one point.
The game was an ideal hit-out eight days before SA takes on NSW/ACT in an AFL exhibition match as the curtainraiser to Adelaide’s game against St Kilda next Sunday.
Ebony Marinoff was SA’s leading possession winner, with 22 disposals and eight clearances, while experienced captain Cramey Courtney had 19 touches.
Sally Riley was the leading ballwinner for the NT, with 15, and Jaylene Chevalier kicked the team’s two goals.
The AFC and AFLNT have lodged a joint bid with the AFL to have a licence for a team in the new AFL national women’s competiton next year.
