Two of South Australia’s favourite sons have reason to celebrate as we welcome in the New Year.

Barely six months into his tenure as coach of the Australian cricket team, Crows Ambassador Darren Lehmann is the toast of the nation after leading the Aussies to a 5-0 Ashes whitewash over England.

The Gawler-born veteran of 27 tests is a long-time Crows fanatic and has been lauded for bringing ‘fun’ back into the Australian Test side. Not since the glory days of Australian cricket has the world seen such aggressive bowling and refined stroke play from our Test 11, with Lehmann’s own ‘old-school’ competitive spirit an obvious influence on the playing squad.

The next challenge for ‘Boof’ sees the Australians travel to South Africa in February to front the No.1 ranked test side in the world.

No.1 Ticket Holder Lleyton Hewitt has also started 2014 in impressive fashion, downing 17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer in impressive style to win the final of the Brisbane International.

Hewitt turned back the clock with a vintage three-set victory over tennis’ most decorated player to propel the 32-year-old back inside the top 50 players in the world.

Off the back of an outstanding 2013, which saw Hewitt awarded the John Newcombe Medal, the avid Adelaide fan looks in great shape on the eve of the Australian Open.
