The Adelaide Football Club’s Ready Set Crow (RSC) team continues to make great strides, with the program completing another successful visit to the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in February.
Crows RSC Project Officers Eddie Hocking and Josh Wittwer spent time in six remote communities and spoke with up to 30 students about the possibility of visiting Adelaide to experience what school is like in the city through program partner Wiltja Residential.
The RSC team works with the Department of Education and Child Development, schools, key education stakeholders and Remote School Attendance Strategy (RSAS) Providers to offer mentoring and support for students looking to transition from remote communities to Secondary School study in Adelaide.
As well as speaking to students about continuing their education in Adelaide, the visits often involve providing practical help and support to families of children the RSC team work with.
One student who benefitted from the visit was Kylie Dingaman-Cooley who has returned to Adelaide this term. Kylie visited Wiltja on a trial visit during last year but was unsure about such a commitment.
A meeting with Kylie and her father David helped to give her the confidence to return and give it another try this year for the benefit of her education and her future.
Further visits to the APY Lands and Far West Coast are already planned throughout the year, to follow up with students and families engaged by the Ready, Set, Crow program.
The RSC project is proudly delivered in partnership with the Australian Government.
