Everything you need to know ahead of Adelaide’s JLT Community Series campaign
What is the JLT Community Series?
The JLT Community Series is the new name of the AFL’s pre-season competition after the League struck a partnership with insurance firm Jardine Lloyd Thompson.
All 18 clubs will play three matches over a four-week period, allowing one bye for every club before Round One of the premiership season.
There is no pre-season Grand Final. The last pre-season premiership was won by Brisbane in 2013.

New 2017 rule interpretations
The AFL has reminded clubs about the new in-season rule interpretations for 2017 that also apply during the JLT Community Series
- No ‘third man up’ at any ruck contest. Only two designated ruckmen can compete at a stoppage. The ball must touch the ground before any other play can contest the ball if no ruckmen are present.
- Strict interpretation on deliberate rushed behinds. Any behind rushed from beyond the top of the goalsquare to result in a ball up 15-metres from the goal line. This penalty will be a free kick during the premiership season.
- Players adjudged to deliberately instigate high contact via ducking, shrugging, or lifting an arm will not receive a free kick and play on will be called.
