Angela Foley says captaining the Crows in Saturday night’s AFLW trial game against Fremantle was a “pretty proud moment.”
In the absence of re-elected co-captains Chelsea Randall and Erin Phillips, Foley stood up to skipper the team at TIO Stadium in Darwin.
It was a special moment for the Shepparton-born defender, who now calls the Northern Territory home.
“It was really exciting captaining in front of my home crowd, and it’s something I’ll probably remember forever,” Foley said.
“I grasped the opportunity and it was great to have some family and friends watching, and a decent crowd cheering us on.”
Foley led from the front with her performance too.
The 29-year-old was steadfast in defence, displaying her best in the second half when the game was in the balance.

Despite the narrow defeat, Foley said the Crows took were pleased with the hit-out.
“It’s a trial game, so we practiced a few things and achieved what we wanted out of the game.”

As part of the Club’s Darwin training camp, the 2018 leadership group was announced.
Former South Australian captain Courtney Cramey was added to the group alongside 2017 members Randall, Phillips, Foley and Sally Riley.
Foley said she was looking forward to being part of the group again.
“It’s good to have Courtney into the group this year. She’s a fantastic leader and led the girls last year, and I’m sure we’ll learn lots from her,” Foley said.
“I really enjoyed the role last year. I learnt a lot and grew as a leader and I think we worked well as a group and with the coaches and the team itself, so it’s good to be re-elected back in.”
It has been a big offseason for the hard-running Foley, with new Darwin-based draftees Jasmyn Hewett and Calista Boyd pushing her on the track.
“Jassy is really fit, fast and has great endurance and Calista’s really quick. It helps me because I can sprint against Calista and test my endurance against Jas,” Foley said.
“It’s excellent training weather up here for conditioning.
“It’s fantastic to have a bit of competition with those girls and we are feeling quite fit.”
A member of Adelaide’s inaugural AFLW premiership team and two-time NTFL best-and-fairest winner, Foley focused on improving specific parts of her game over the summer.
“My attack on the ball and my strength was something I wanted to work on,” Foley said.
“In last night’s game, I felt like I was more confident in my body shape and strength to attack the ball and not shy away from it.
“Hopefully, I can take it into Round One.”
Foley and the rest of her Northern Territory-based Crows teammates are travelling to Adelaide for the Club’s Season Launch on Monday afternoon. Details about the free, all-ages event at Football Park are available here.
The joint-vice captain is looking forward to the opportunity to spend some time in Adelaide.
“I relish every opportunity to get down to Adelaide and soak up the facilities and being at the Club with everyone, it is a rare opportunity for us in the NT,” she said.
“I think that we are having a dinner with the boys before we get presented with our jumpers. I’m looking forward to seeing heaps of fans out there.”
