Adelaide has appointed 11 ambassadors to help extend its multicultural initiatives and introduce more people from diverse backgrounds to the sport of Australian Rules.
The Crows fans will attend match day events, assist with the Club’s multicultural strategy and initiatives, and support the Club at a community level, among other activities.
The 11 ambassadors for 2018/19 are:
- Constance Jones, African Women Federation of Australia
- Deepak Bhardwaj, Relationships Australia SA
- Diing Akur, Crows Next Generation Academy
- Gergely Duh, Hungarian Community Radio
- Hannah Ewings, Crows Next Generation Academy
- Kathryn Eaton, Anglicare SA
- Kirsten Bickendorf, Australian Refugee Association
- Mariloly Reyes, Department for Child Protection
- Mary Awata, Anglicare SA
- Michael O’Donnell, IQRA College
- Rachel Nyiramugisha, Australian Refugee Association
In March, the Crows appointed Cecile Saidi to the role of Multicultural Liaison Officer in order to expand its work with people from diverse backgrounds.
As well as furthering the Crows’ existing multicultural schools program, which aims to introduce more kids to Australian Rules, Saidi has been busy increasing the Club’s involvement with multicultural events, highlighting the contributions different groups make to the sport and also fostering a supportive environment for those new to Australia who may be looking to learn more about the Club and AFL.
“The appointment of these ambassadors will help to further the work the Club has already done in this space,” Saidi said.
“We are looking forward to working together to encourage new people to become involved in the sport and help them to make new connections and friends.”
A number of the ambassadors attended a closed training and the Club’s Round 22 match at Adelaide Oval against North Melbourne.
