Crows AFL captain Taylor Walker and star forward Eddie Betts will take part in a public ice bath of sorts this Saturday afternoon when Adelaide and Norwood come together to support Motor Neuron Disease (MND) as part of their Round 13 SANFL clash.
Walker and Betts will join a host of other local sporting and media identities at Norwood Oval to be dunked by fans in ice and freezing water in support of former Crow and current Norwood player Mitch Grigg, whose father Chris has MND.
With Grigg’s father recently diagnosed and Norwood past player Damien Lane losing his life to the disease, MND was chosen as the cause for Norwood’s annual ‘Count me in Round’, held during Round 13 in support of a different charity or cause each year.
Former Crow Tyson Edwards, Norwood coach Jarrod Cotton and Channel 7’s Mark Soderstrom will also take part in the dunking which will commence at 12pm at the Northern End of Norwood Oval.
MND has received significant support from the AFL industry in recent years, driven by former player and coach Neale Daniher who has spearheaded the Big Freeze campaign to raise funds for research into the disease.
Adelaide senior coach Don Pyke, whose father also battled the disease, participated in Big Freeze at the G and went down the slide into an ice bath at the Queen’s Birthday AFL match in June.
The Redlegs will be collecting gold coin donations for the cause on the day, before the first bounce at 1.10pm.
