Adelaide assistant coach Michael Godden has become one of the first recipients of the new SANFL Player/Coach Life Membership.

Godden received the honour, which recognizes significant contribution to the game, on Monday night at the SANFL’s annual general meeting.

Before joining the Crows in 2018, Godden spent eight years as senior coach of Woodville-West Torrens.

Throughout his time in charge, the Eagles won a premiership in 2011 and failed to miss the finals once.

"It's great to be recognised," Godden told AFC Media.

"It's a reward for many years of service.

"Obviously you're not doing it for that (the recognition), but it is nice."

Godden also played 89 SANFL games for West Adelaide but his career was cut short due to a series of serious knee injuries.

Between 2012 and 2015, he coached the South Australian State Team. 

He received the honour alongside Central Districts coach Roy Laird, who has won seven premierships since 2003.
