Woodville-West Torrens proved too good for Adelaide in wet conditions, beating the SANFL Crows by eight points on Sunday afternoon.
Heavy rain drenched Woodville Oval for most of the day and the Eagles handled the conditions better in a low-scoring affair, winning 5.10 (40) to 4.8 (32).
Crows captain Matthew Wright did his best to lift his team, finishing with 34 disposals, eight rebound 50s and four tackles.
Midfielders Hugh Greenwood (20 disposals, 15 tackles and seven clearances) and Myles Poholke (21 disposals, 10 tackles and six inside 50s) competed hard all day.
In his second week in the ruck, Kieran Strachan impressed again, finishing with 36 hitouts, 15 disposals and seven clearances.
State League coach Heath Younie said the game was won because the Eagles took their chances when they got it forward.
“That was tough conditions today and when it gets like that, it’s purely about contest and fundamentals of the game,” Younie said.
“It’s about ground ball, tackle, kicking the ball forward and not over possessing.
“The Eagles were able to adjust a little bit better with and as a result were able to put some scoreboard pressure on and made it difficult for us at the end of the game.
“But, the effort was there. It’s really difficult in those conditions but both teams competed right until the end.”
Young defender Will Hamill suffered calf tightness and was removed from play in the second quarter.
He will be assessed further during the week.
