Adelaide will consider going to the mid-season rookie draft to replace injured defender Tom Doedee, but aren't locked into recruiting an identical replacement.
Doedee will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL sustained in last weekend's 32-point loss to Hawthorn.
The Crows can open up a list spot by placing Doedee on the long-term injury list.
"It opens up that opportunity so that's something we'll look to explore," Crows coach Don Pyke told reporters on Wednesday.
"It's a question then of whether we go like for like, or what the list actually needs at that point.
"Not necessarily (will we select a defender), but if we lose another defender then we'll want to bolster that area."

The mid-season rookie draft will be held on Monday, May 27 after the conclusion of round 10.
Clubs have until midday that day to make a list spot available.
Pyke said the mid-season draft was beneficial to clubs and gave players overlooked in the draft another opportunity.
"It gives AFL clubs the chance to supplement their list when there are season-ending injuries," he said.
"On the other side, it gives an opportunity for a young guy who missed out in the draft to get a chance.
"If I'm a young guy playing in the SANFL, VFL or the WAFL, I'm thinking if I can perform really well and there are spots out there, I might get a crack at playing AFL footy this year, which is great for a young guy to think his AFL dream might still be alive."
Fellow defender Jake Kelly jogged laps at training this morning, but Pyke was confident he would be fit to take on Sydney at the SCG on Friday night.
"He tweaked his ankle just a little bit," Pyke said.
"He was able to get up and do a fair bit this morning, so we're pretty confident he'll be right, it's just a real minor one."
INJURY UPDATE: Adelaide injury news before Round Two
Winger Paul Seedsman is set to come into the side after missing round one with a fractured finger.
"He's recovered really well from that finger injury, trained fully this morning and we expect him to be back in," Pyke said.
Pyke said midfielder Hugh Greenwood and forward Jordan Gallucci would need at least another week in the SANFL to build their match fitness before being considered for senior selection.
The Crows don't have any fears travelling to the SCG, having won five of their past seven trips, including a 10-point victory in round five last year.
"We've got a pretty good record at the SCG, but it doesn't count for an awful lot," Pyke said.
"We know it's possible, but we've got to go and do it."
