Adelaide will enter the 2019 AFL Draft holding pick No. 4, the Club’s highest selection in draft history.
Laurence Angwin was previously Adelaide’s highest, selected with pick No. 7 in 2000.
A number of AFL stars were chosen with pick four, including Norm Smith Medalist Peter Matera, Fremantle great Matthew Pavlich, and current AFL stars Josh Kennedy (West Coast) and Marcus Bontempelli.
Matera, a five-time All-Australian, was drafted by West Coast in 1989 and won two premierships (1992, 1994).
The 253-gamer also took home the 1992 Norm Smith Medal and was included in 2005’s Indigenous Team of the Century.
Pavlich played 353 games for the Dockers, booting 700 goals and guiding Fremantle to their first Grand Final appearance in 2013.
The SA-born forward was a six-time All-Australian during his 17-season career, claiming six best and fairest awards and eight leading goalkicker awards at Fremantle.
Kennedy appeared in just 22 games for Carlton before he was traded to West Coast as part of the Chris Judd deal in 2007.
The 2018 premiership player has played 221 games for the Eagles and kicked more than 600 goals en route to two Coleman Medals (2015, 2016) and three All-Australian selections (2015, 2016, 2017).
Bontempelli has wasted no time in collecting career honours, most notably a premiership medal in 2016.
The 23-year-old has been named an All-Australian twice (2016, 2019), Bulldogs best and fairest three times (2016, 2017, 2019) and garnered selection in the AFL’s 22-under-22 on five occasions (three as captain).
Another 11 past No. 4 picks are still active, including All-Australians Andrew Gaff (2010) and Clayton Oliver (2015), plus Port Adelaide’s Hamish Hartlett (2008).
