Crows wingman David Mackay will be out for between 8-12 weeks after opting to have surgery on his injured right shoulder.
Crow football operations general manager Phil Harper said: “After consulting with a specialist it was decided that surgery was the best option to fix the problem for good. The other alternatives would have been stop-gap and came with a large risk of re-injury. It’s very disappointing for David, however he will be a valuable addition to the side in the second half of the season.”
Earlier today www.afc.com.au revealed Rory Sloane is likely to sidelined for six weeks after two bouts of surgery later this week.
The Crows midfielder, one of Adelaide’s best with 18 possessions and eight score involvements in the opening round win over Hawthorn, needs a tooth to be removed to help with his recovery from a fractured jaw and then will have an operation on his broken thumb.
“We are still quite amazed Rory played out the game so well, given the fact he had these two injuries,” Harper said. “While it will be a long six weeks of Rory, we are confident in the players who were disappointed to miss out on selection in round one.”
Jason Porplyzia’s shoulder injury is still being assessed and decisions will not be made until further consultation with club doctors.
