Kuwarna was given a glimpse of its next generation of female stars at the weekend, as the Club hosted its annual Academies curtain raiser.

The match between Team Goodwin and Team Charlton, two products of the Club’s Next Generation Academies program, was hosted before the Week Nine AFLW clash against North Melbourne at Norwood Oval.

It featured players from the under-15 age group, selected from NGA aligned SANFL clubs.

A close contest from start-to-finish, Team Goodwin held off its fast-finishing opposition to win by eight points.

A best on ground medal was awarded to a player on each team, with the Team Goodwin recipient being Charlotte Copson from Sturt, while Lily Whiteman also from Sturt, was the Charlton Medallist.

Kuwarna Academies Manager Jarrod Meers said it was the “most impressive” standard of football he had seen from the match in its eight year history.

“This was easily the most impressive girls Crows Academies AFLW Curtain Raiser game we have seen since the program has been running,” Meers said.

The match was the eighth iteration of the girls Academies curtain raiser.

Kuwarna has had 23 graduates from the girls Academies program join AFLW lists since its inception in 2016, with ten current Kuwarna players having featured in the curtain raiser match across its history.
