Adelaide has gifted more than $50,000 to the Returned and Services League (RSL) South Australia from the sale and auction of its 2024 Anzac Guernsey.
The Club launched its first commemorative Anzac Guernsey in April this year and committed to donating part proceeds from the sale of the guernseys to the RSL Anzac Appeal.
The Crows also committed to donating all proceeds from auctioned off player issued and match worn guernseys to RSL SA.
This week, it was confirmed the Club had raised a total of $54,315 to hand over to support the RSL Anzac Appeal.
In addition to the donation, Adelaide gifted all 118 RSL clubs in South Australia an Anzac Guernsey signed by a selection of AFL-listed players.
Crows CEO Tim Silvers said the Club was proud to support such an important cause.
“The response to our first commemorative Anzac Guernsey was incredible and I’d like to thank all Crows fans who supported the initiative,” Silvers said.
“By purchasing the guernsey, they are supporting the amazing work the RSL does for the Service community and their families.
“Our Club is proud to support the South Australian RSL and delighted to make the donation towards the RSL Anzac Appeal.”
RSL SA CEO Tara Belton said the organisation was grateful for the donation, which would be put towards a new program.
“The wellbeing of our Veterans has reached a crucial point here in SA, and the RSL has answered the call with its newest wellbeing program, RSL Reach Out," Ms Belton said.
"The funds that have been raised by this initiative will be attributed to that program, ensuring we continue to assist Veterans and their families to flourish and thrive as they navigate life after military service.
"We cannot thank the Adelaide Crows Community enough, what a wonderful result."
The Crows' special design on the guernsey depicted a bugler playing in front of the sun going down, which is represented by the Club’s hoops in red, orange and yellow, serving as a poignant reminder of the reverence of the occasion.
Included on the back of the guernsey were five red poppies, positioned to represent a wreath, and the words ‘Lest we forget’.
The Crows wore the guernsey during their match against North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena, Hobart, on Saturday, April 27, which coincided with the AFL’s Anzac Day Round.
