Former Crow Scott Thompson has been inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Thompson, now 41, was recognised for his contribution to South Australian football at the 2024 Magarey Medal presentation on Monday night.

The midfielder played eight games with Port Adelaide’s SANFL reserves, before starting his AFL career with Melbourne after being selected at the 2000 National Draft.

Thompson played 39 games for the Demons, but returned to South Australia after the Crows struck up a trade deal with Melbourne at the end of the 2004 season.

At the Crows, he quickly earned a reputation as one of the competition’s toughest and most consistent midfielders, often among the leaders at the Brownlow Medal count.

After being named in the All-Australian Squad in 2011, Thompson was selected in the final team in 2012, a season in which he averaged 29.4 disposals and 6.8 clearances across 25 games, finishing third in the Brownlow Medal count.

As one of five SA-produced footballers to have played 300+ AFL games (39 for Melbourne, 269 for the Crows), Thompson also polled more Brownlow Medal votes (152) than any other Crow.

He is a two-time Crows Club Champion (winner in 2011 and 2012) and finished as the runner up in 2010.

Thompson also claimed the SANFL Best and Fairest during his final season at the Crows in 2017.

Following his AFL retirement, Thompson spent two seasons with Port Adelaide as a development coach and then returned to the Crows in 2021 as an AFLW assistant.
