Adelaide Leader Lachlan Murphy says teammate Izak Rankine is at home recovering well, after being subbed out due to concussion during Showdown 56 on Saturday night.

Rankine left the field on a stretcher during the third quarter at Adelaide Oval, following a collision with Port Adelaide’s Dan Houston.

The midfielder turned forward has now entered the AFL’s concussion protocols and will not be available for Adelaide’s game against Sydney this Saturday night.

Speaking to the media on Monday morning, Murphy said all players’ thoughts were with Rankine and it was hoped he would return to the Club later this week.

“He’s at home at the moment, in the concussion protocols, so he won’t be playing this week,” Murphy said.

“Our attention goes to making sure he’s on the mend.

“All I know is that he’s going to be home for a couple of days.

“From all reports, there’s no other injuries associated with it, just a concussion, so hopefully he’s on the mend and feeling better and will be in and around the Club in the coming days.”

Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks spoke about Rankine post-game and said he was “up and about”.

“First and foremost, he’s up and about,” Nicks said.

“His health and welfare is the priority for us, now, just making sure he’s OK and he is.

“He’s up and about but we will keep a close eye on how he’s going.”
