Adelaide’s SANFL side made it back-to-back wins when it defeated Woodville-West Torrens by 16 points at Woodville Oval on Sunday afternoon.

It was a closely contested game throughout, before the Crows booted the first three goals of the final term to prevail 11.10 (76) to 8.12 (60), helping to keep the Club's finals hopes alive.

Here are the five key takeaways from the match:

Hamill’s dash

Defender Will Hamill provided Adelaide with his trademark pace off half-back, breaking lines and putting the Crows into attack.

Hamill’s run and carry was an asset for Adelaide, while his defensive workrate also impressed SANFL Assistant Coach Matt Wright.

“His run and carry is obviously his weapon, but his ability to defend, he is really diligent in that space,” Wright said.

“The bounce he provided out of the back half was really influential on getting the game on our terms.”

Hamill recorded 21 disposals, five marks, three tackles and five rebound-50s.

Worrell impacts in return

In his first game back since mid-May, defender Josh Worrell returned to competitive footy having an immediate impact against the Eagles.

Worrell’s presence was felt when the ball was in Adelaide’s defensive half, with the 23-year-old’s intercept marking and effective ball use on display.

“To have Josh come back in was awesome, he was probably best on ground in the end,” Wright said.

“His intercept marking, his ball use and his leadership particularly late to find a few marks and take some sting out of the game.”

Worrell finished with a game-high 30 disposals, nine marks and seven rebound-50s.

Gollant the defender

Forward Lachlan Gollant played a new role against Woodville-West Torrens, making the switch to the other end of the ground as a key defender.

Gollant did not look out of place, nullifying his direct opponent, before moving back forward in the final term where he hit the scoreboard.

“With a few key backs going down at AFL level it was an opportunity to try him out down back and that is something that we talk to all of our players about being flexible and play multiple roles,” Wright said.

“We put him forward late in that game because we wanted another target and he provided that kicking the first goal of the quarter.”

Gollant amassed eight disposals, four marks and three rebound-50s.

Boyle gets the job done

SANFL Development Player Jay Boyle was one of Adelaide’s best performers against the Eagles.

Boyle was dominant in the contest, winning the ball to get Adelaide inside 50, and tackled hard to apply plenty of pressure.

“For him to come out and compete like that, I thought he put in a shift and was really influential”, Wright said.

“I know their midfield is high-quality and he was a contributing factor to us getting the win.”

Boyle finished with 25 disposals, nine tackles, five clearances and seven inside 50s.

Strachan embraces challenge

Ruckman Kieran Strachan battled throughout the afternoon, taking the solo ruck duties against the Eagles' experience ruck pair of Jarrad Redden and Connor Ballenden.

While he broke even in the hit-outs, Strachan’s work around the ground was the difference, as he outworked his opponents to impact with his possessions.

“He is evolving his game, for him to play at such a high level for the time that he has is a credit to his preparation and effort he puts in,” Wright said.

“His diligence gameday to compete and give our mids first look against two very good ruckmen and then provided the intercept marks around the ground and go forward, makes him hard to match up on.

Strachan recorded nine disposals, six marks, 21 hit-outs, four clearances, four inside-50s and booted one goal.

Adelaide’s SANFL side will not have a game next week due to a league-wide bye.

The Crows' next State League game will be against West Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, August 11, at 12.10pm.

The game will serve as a curtain raiser to the AFL side’s clash against the Western Bulldogs.
