Adelaide forward Riley Thilthorpe is set to play his first AFL game for 2024 against St Kilda this Saturday night after successfully overcoming a long-term knee injury.

Thilthorpe, who injured his knee in the final quarter of the Crows’ last trial game in March,  has spent the past two weeks with the Club’s SANFL side proving his fitness.

Adelaide Head of Football Adam Kelly said Thilthorpe, who finished last week’s SANFL match against Central District with two goals, four tackles and 12 hit-outs, was ready to return to the AFL.

“Riley’s first game at AFL level for the 2024 season has been a long time waiting for a player who enjoyed an exceptional pre-season in preparation for a season that was full of hope and promise,” Kelly said.

“He has approached his rehabilitation with an elite level of diligence and professionalism and has been supported by a high performance and medical team that we are proud of.

“There is still plenty of opportunity in this season for Riley to be rewarded for his hard work and we are looking forward to his continued development, starting with this Saturday night.”

The 22-year-old forward is among two changes to the side ahead of the Round 18 clash against the Saints at Adelaide Oval.

As the Club announced on Wednesday, Hugh Bond has earned selection and will make his AFL debut.

“Hugh comes into the side after excelling in his role for the SANFL team throughout season 2024,” Kelly said.

“Hugh is a disciplined and determined defender who will not be beaten on effort.

“These characteristics earn respect amongst his teammates and regard from all associated with the team.

“It is very pleasing to see someone who has worked as hard as Hugh be rewarded with an opportunity and we look forward to seeing his competitiveness on show at the AFL level.”

Defender Mitch Hinge comes out of the side as he manages an adductor injury, while Izak Rankine will miss the match due to suspension.

James Borlase, Chayce Jones and Harry Schoenberg have been named as the emergencies.

Adelaide plays St Kilda at Adelaide Oval at 7pm.

Players will don their Indigenous guernsey to celebrate NAIDOC week.

The Club will name its substitute for the match one hour before the game.

All kids aged 14 years old and under will get free access to the game when an adult ticket is purchased.
