Adelaide wing Lachlan Sholl says a focus on playing his role for the team is behind a solid bout of form.

Sholl will enter the Round 12 match against Hawthorn off the back of a career-high performance, in which he amassed 34 disposals, nine marks, four clearances and booted one goal in Adelaide’s 99-point win over the Eagles.

Speaking to AFC Media, Sholl credited the work of Adelaide’s midfielders in allowing him to have such a big impact on the game.

“Going into any game all you’re concerned about is playing your role and doing the team things first and hopefully off the back of that you can get your game going,” Sholl said.

“It makes it easy when you have guys in there winning the footy, the mids were awesome on the weekend, so that makes your job as a winger a lot easier.

“On the weekend it was nice, we got a good win and the boys came out and were on from the first bounce.”

Sholl was recognised by both Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks and his West Coast counterpart Adam Simpson post-game, by being awarded seven coaches' votes.

The 24-year-old has played in eight of Adelaide’s 11 games this season, where he is averaging career-highs in disposals (19.6) and marks (5.4), along with 2.1 inside 50s a game.

He has also been hitting the scoreboard, having already topped his career-high for goals in a season with six so far in 2024, including kicking a major in each of the past five games.

“I suppose it has just been about making more of the opportunities I get in front of goal,” Sholl said.

“I’m not going to get shots on goal every single week but when those chances come just staying ready for that."

Sholl is hoping to continue his form this weekend against Hawthorn, with an opportunity to play at the MCG an exciting prospect for the winger.

“It’s an amazing ground, it’s got so much history,” Sholl said.

“We are very blessed with Adelaide Oval, it’s an amazing oval, but whenever we get the chance to go to the 'G it’s amazing as well.

“It will be really exciting and hopefully we can put our best foot forward and see where it gets us on the weekend.”

The Crows take on the Hawks at the MCG on Saturday at 1.15pm (ACST).
