ADELAIDE has given up a lead of almost six goals midway through the second term to fall to a 32-point defeat to Port Adelaide in Showdown 30 at AAMI Stadium.

The Power dominated the second half, running away to win 14.14 (98) to 9.12 (66).

The Crows, unhappy with their slow starts in their first two games of the season, were completely on top in the opening quarter, restricting Port to just three behinds for the term.

Scott Thompson and Matthew Jaensch slotted the first two goals of the match after some sloppy defensive work from Port, before debutant Luke Thompson nailed his first goal in AFL footy to put Adelaide ahead by 21 points.

Kurt Tippett also stamped his authority on the contest early in his second game back from injury, with four marks in the first quarter and an after-the-siren goal to give Adelaide a 27-point buffer at quarter time.

But Port rallied in the second term, with Jacob Surjan booting the Power's first goal for the evening in his first AFL game for season 2011.

The Power then piled on another three goals in two minutes, with majors to Daniel Motlop, Chad Cornes and Rodan reducing the deficit to 16 points midway through the quarter.

Late goals to Westhoff and Gray put the Power back in contention, trailing by just nine points at the main break.

Port carried the momentum into the second half, with Rodan dancing through the Adelaide defence and gifting Motlop his second goal for the night to bring the Power within a kick early in the third term.

Cameron O'Shea then converted his 30m set shot for his first goal at the elite level, putting Port into the lead for the first time of the match.

The Power controlled the term, outscoring the Crows 5.1 to 0.2 and winning the contested footy to take a 20-point lead to three-quarter time.

They then kicked away further in the final quarter before a couple of late consolation goals for the Crows.
