Adelaide has made several changes to its side set to face Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
Key forward Taylor Walker returns after overcoming back spasms and will be joined by young midfielder Jake Soligo and Irish defender Mark Keane.
Adelaide Head of Football Adam Kelly said Keane had worked hard to return to full fitness, following the concussion he sustained during the trial game against Port Adelaide.
“Keaney enjoyed a great pre-season before being concussed,” Kelly said.
“He played very well in our SANFL trial last week and comes into the team off not only that performance but what had been an excellent preparation for the season over the summer months.”
Kelly also said Soligo’s performance last week warranted selection in the starting line-up.
“Jake was outstanding when he entered the game in the second half last week after starting as the sub,” Kelly said.
“Having returned from an ankle injury with limited game time in our final trial and playing as the sub last week, Jake has built his fitness in preparation for a return to our starting 22.
“He was a standout performer over the pre-season and he is in a great position to have a significant impact in 2024.”
Defender James Borlase, Lachlan Sholl and Lachlan Gollant have been omitted.
“James, Sholly and Lachie have been in good form as a result of the continued hard work they have put into their development as players,” Kelly said.
“Our hope is that we continue to be challenged with difficult decisions at match committee, as it will signal depth in performance of our squad.”
Ned McHenry has also been added to the extended interchange.
Forward Luke Pedlar, Sam Berry, Lachie Murphy, Mitch Hinge and McHenry make up a five-player bench, with one to be named as the substitute an hour before the game.
Gollant, Borlase and Patrick Parnell are the emergencies.
The match will also mark Murphy's 100th AFL game.
