Adelaide is one of five teams vying for a Grand Final berth heading into an intriguing last round of the AFLW season.
The winner of Saturday night’s game between the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne at Whitten Oval is guaranteed a spot in the decider.
The Demons moved into second place on the ladder on Sunday, defeating Carlton to secure their fourth win of the season. The Bulldogs, who also have a 4 – 2 record, currently sit in top spot percentage ahead of the Dees.
The Dogs had a chance to lock away a place in the Grand Final in Canberra on Saturday night, but Greater Western Sydney staged an upset to enhance its own premiership credentials.
The Giants and Crows, who played out a draw in Round Four, are level on 14 premiership points in third and fourth spot, respectively.
Boasting a better percentage than Adelaide, GWS can move another step closer to the Grand Final with victory over the Brisbane Lions at Blacktown on Friday night.
The Lions, who were ranked second leading into Round Six, missed an opportunity to join the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne on four wins, going down to a red-hot Collingwood on Saturday.
Last year’s runners-up must now beat GWS on Friday night, overtake the loser of the Melbourne and Western Bulldogs match on percentage and rely on the Crows losing, to remain in the hunt for the title.
For the second-consecutive season, Adelaide’s fortunes are set to be determined in a clash with Collingwood in the final round.
The contest at Olympic Park is the last match of the home and away season, meaning the Crows will know exactly what they have to do to claim a Grand Final berth prior to the opening bounce.
Regardless of other results, Adelaide must beat the in-form Pies.
The Crows will also be hoping the Lions can win on Friday night to remove Greater Western Sydney’s percentage (currently 112.4 per cent) from the equation.
If GWS win, Adelaide (101 per cent) will not only need to beat Collingwood but also chase down percentage on the Giants.
The AFLW ladder after Round Six
If the Pies defeat the Crows, the door will open for the loser of Saturday night’s blockbuster between the Dogs and Demons, or the winner at Blacktown on Friday night to make the top two.
The resurgent Magpies have won two of their last three games.
Last year, a Sarah Perkins-inspired Adelaide came from 24 points down to defeat Collingwood in the last round and book a spot in the inaugural AFLW Grand Final, where the Crows were triumphant.
