Adelaide defender Sarah Goodwin says she is looking forward to experiencing her first taste of AFLW Finals when Adelaide takes on Brisbane on Saturday.
This season, the 19-year-old has been a consistent performer in Adelaide’s side, lacing up the boots in all 10 minor round games, where she has averaged 8.5 disposals, 1.8 marks and 3.3 tackles.
Speaking to AFC Media Goodwin said she couldn't wait to get out on Norwood Oval with her teammates, as the squad focused on claiming a historic fourth flag.
“I’m really excited, especially since I’ve never experienced finals before,” Goodwin said.
“I am looking forward to the experience and seeing how far we can go as a group.
“There is a lot of excitement amongst the group, but obviously a few nerves as well.
“Everyone is really keen to show the rest of the competition what we’ve got and that we can go all the way this year.”
Adelaide and Brisbane will be familiar with one another, having played a few weeks ago in Round Eight, a game which the Crows narrowly lost by three points.
This was the Crows’ sole loss of the season, with the side looking to flip the result this time around.
Adelaide earned the right to host the Qualifying Final after finishing the season as minor premiers and Goodwin said the home-ground advantage would be a major boost.
“I think it was the second quarter (against Brisbane in Round Eight) when we had a lapse in concentration and they got on top of us,” Goodwin said.
“I think if we can bring our pressure and match there’s we can get over the line this week.
“Anytime we play in front of a home crowd we always feel that advantage, they really get behind us, particularly at Norwood.
“That support will be a key part of getting us over the line.”
Adelaide has had plenty of experience in big games this season, playing all the other top four sides, which Goodwin feels will hold them in good stead to be able to tackle the high pressure of finals footy.
“Definitely playing against teams like Melbourne, North Melbourne and Brisbane was a really good experience leading into finals,” she said.
“It gives you a taste of what the best teams in the comp produce and the standard you need to play at.”
Adelaide faces Brisbane in a Qualifying Final at Norwood Oval on Saturday afternoon, with the first bounce at 2.35pm (ACDT).
