Adelaide has strengthened its draft hand and added key position versatility to its squad in a trade with Gold Coast today.
The Crows receive Pick 14 and South Australian utility Chris Burgess in exchange for Picks 23 and 26.
It means Adelaide now has Picks 10, 14 and 20 for November’s National Draft.
Burgess, 27, was drafted to Gold Coast from West Adelaide in 2018 and has played 36 AFL games.
Standing 194cm, he has shown the ability to play at either end of the ground and last month he kicked three goals in Gold Coast’s VFL grand final victory, while also claiming the past two Jim ‘Frosty’ Miller Medals as the competition’s leading goal kicker.
Crows GM List Management and Strategy Justin Reid said the addition of Burgess would help address some key position needs, and Pick 14 was a significant move up the draft order.
“We are very pleased with the deal,” Reid said.
“Firstly, to get Chris to the Club, he is an athletic key position player who has the versatility to play forward or back which we know is important in today’s game.
“And it’s an opportunity for Chris to continue his AFL career in his home state, he is a quality person who will bring a lot to our team both on and off the field.
“In addition to that, receiving Pick 14 strengthens our draft hand as we look to add more top-end talent to our playing list.”
